Different Ways to Enjoy Tabaco City: Side Trip Cam Sur & Some Parts of Albay

on our way to Vera Falls - Tabaco City

I was lucky enough to be born in this province with the magnificent Mayon Volcano as the back drop every clear day. Dangerous it may be when active, it gives you pristine calmness when it sits there with nothing but its beauty.

I left the province when I was sixteen (16) for university and I only go home for vacation now as the family is already here in Manila too. Last long weekend (November 30 – December 2) I took 4 of my long time friends with me to enjoy what my hometown could offer.

If you are a group of 5 or more here are some of the things you could do that would not hurt your pockets. Although it is always best to have a friend that lives there for free lodging.

I will take you to the journey from how we did it last long weekend.

Cagsawa Ruins
(we were a bit late so we had to chase the daylight)

Day 1:

Rent a jeepney to take you around, this would cost around Php 3,500 that covers the gas and the drivers fee. This would be for the whole day and go to these places:
a.  Mayon Resthouse – the crisp cold air at the foot of Mayon Volcano (yes literally at the foot of Mayon, on a clear day you could see the crater up close) is amazing that you would think you are in Baguio. It is set up fronting the shorelines of Tabaco City and vast greenery.
-   From Tabaco City this would take around 45 mins to go up (and shorter to go down)
b.  CWC (Camsur Watersports Complex) – if you like wakeboarding you could have pay Php 1,499 for 3 days and 2 nights with unlimited wakeboarding. You could check out their website for more information.

-   From Mayon Resthouse this would take you about 1 and half hour to head there.
-   My friends and I did not wakeboard as we were pressed for time. I just took them to the area to see it.
-   No entrance fee here.
c. Cagsawa Ruins the remnants of an 18th century Franciscan church, the Cagsawa church, built in 1724 and destroyed by the 1814 eruption of the Mayon Volcano. This is one of the best places to see the Majestic shape of Mayon Volcano. Great place to appreciate beauty and its peril. Entrance fee is Php 10.00. you could also buy some of your gifts in this area.
-    This would take you about 2 hours travel from CWC.
d.  Ligñon Hill Natural Park - this is one of the spots where you could see Mayon Volcano and Legazpi City. You could also Zip Line here.
-   We didn’t go up anymore as there was no daylight anymore and my friends were tired from the whole day travel and did not have enough energy to climb up.
e.  Daraga Church – although we did not head out here, I have to include it in your itinerary because it’s on the way. We just left our house late morning so we did not make it.

San Miguel Island, Tabaco City

Day 2:

Rent a boat in Tabaco City port and head to San Miguel Island. There is this beach front farm that has the best view of Mayon Volcano and with very few or no visitors at all. No entrance fee or cottage fee as well if you stay at the shore. Half a day would cost you 600-700 pesos and the boatman would wait for you until you leave the island or you can negotiate for the entire day or from 8am-4pm when the waters are calm.

If you only want half a day in the island as you wouldn’t really do much there but take pictures and swim a little. Get on a motorbike to roam around the municipality and buy your pili nuts. You can see the Tabaco Church (built 1864). Then chill in the afternoon.

 Tabaco City Church

Day 3:

If you are leaving Tabaco City in the afternoon, say 5:30pm, you can still enjoy the scenery like Vera Falls for the entire morning. The bike ride (or you can rent tricycle maybe 500 pesos not sure how much you could negotiate). It would take you around 45mins to 1 hour from Tabaco Sentro to Vera Falls.

You can go for the ATV ride along lava flows in Rawis, Legazpi City for Php 1500-1800 depending on how well you could negotiate.

 Vera Falls, Tabaco City

Food to Try

1.  Buy Bangkulis (Tuna) – Fried Bangkulis is the way to go. My favorite fish.

2.  Laing – of course this never goes out of style.

3.  Ginataang Malungay with Pagi or fish

4.  Dried fish – try nulook though salty, it’s very delicious with fried rice. Tuyo and Tinapa are the best kinds in Tabaco City (in my opinion)

5.  DJC Halo Halo – one of the best halo halo in Albay, although I would suggest you go to Tiwi, Albay home of DJC Halo Halo because they have a little better quality than in Tabaco. It would take you about 30 mins jeep ride to Tiwi. You could also buy clay pots there.

6.  Bicol Express – meat based not pork fat based. Although my friends went on a fish and vegetable diet when were there for 3 days. I would still suggest you try this.

7.  Pinangat – one of the best food in Albay with crab fat, coconut milk and taro leaves.

How to Get to Tabaco City:

Via Air-conditioned Bus: Cubao/Pasay/Manila to Tabaco

Cagsawa Bus – leaves Manila from 7-8pm worth Php 850 for deluxe and Php 920 for elite. They have pick up point in Padre Faura corner M.H. Del Pilar and Cubao

DLTB Co. – leaves Cubao from 7-8pm worth from Php 850 or off peak, Php 655.

Piltranco – leaves 6 – 7pm and would cost Php 800-1000 they have terminals in Pasay and Cubao

Other buses: you may check Penafrancia, RSL Tours, Alps etc.

Travel Time: 10-12 hours best to travel at night if you want some rest

Via Plane:

Either you get on a plane headed to Legazpi or Naga but the closest airport to Tabaco City is Legazpi City.

Airline: Cebu Pacific, AirPhil Express, Zest Air and Philippine Airlines

Fares: It would vary from season to season or if the airlines are on seat sales.

Travel Time: 45 minutes to 1 hour

5 Things You Should Know About Introverts (Like Me)

I just needed to clear my head right now before plunging on work again. This occurred to me, what are some of the things people should know about Introverts like me.

And I am an INTP – Designer Theorizer Extraordinaire hahaha!

Anyway here 5 things you should know about us introverts – based on personal accounts.

  • Often appear to be quiet and reserved but thoughtful – basically if you have met me, I have my moments of being reserved and quiet. Please do not mistake that as being a snotty or snob, it is just how we work our days. But we would take note of all the important details you have in life if you are considered integral part of their lives. We would often remember dates that have great significance and moments that are for forever.
  • We like concentration and quiet – Good God yes, we have to make sure that there is peace and quiet in certain moments especially when trying to work on important things, to concentrate and have a quiet environment is like a moment Zen for people like us. I guess that is why music is basically a staple for someone with this personality to calm the nerves in a chaotic environment.
  • Have difficulties in making new contacts – I would believe so, see items 1 and 2. But to reiterate, we are not being snotty or snobby, its just that we get to be reserved most of the time hoping for concentration and quiet which I would agree would sometimes be borderline antisocial. Haha!
  • We love challenges – if things are not viewed challenging we often feel bored or depressed about it that we go through the motions like a ghost or a person inside an elevator with blank stares. Thinking is usually a hobby as we like exploring out thoughts and feelings and often regard them to situations.
  • We love lists – forgive me but I have to live off on things to do and accomplish, I feel so bare-naked of I do not have something to cross off every time I get something done. I would go crazy if I do not have them, the list would serve as reminders of what needs to be done. God even this entry is all about lists haha.

But that is not all we are. I just limited this “list” to 5 because I do not want to go into details. Personality is different from attitude please do not mix them up. How I would act is dependent on how someone has acted/reacted, a whole nine yards of difference.

If you have been curious look into the 16 types of personalities or 8 preferences from Myers Briggs Personality Type, you would have a feast.

8th is Great

Some would claim that the success of an actor would depend on the unwavering support and loyalty of their “fans” – some would argue that pure talent would get her/him shine brighter than the other stars. I would say “indeed” to both but I always feel that the combination lacks a few ingredients that make that success so to speak delectable. Then there is Anne Curtis-Smith and her crazy fannetastic fanneatics (F2) family.

I am not here to compare nor flex my flabs (yes, flabs) to get F2s and Anne Curtis-Smith into the highest pedestal but rather share with you figments of my perception about this beautiful conundrum – ah such big words, high five? Haha

Last November 6, 2012 at My Cinema in Greenbelt the Fannetastic Fanneatics (f2s) celebrated its 8th anniversary with a block screening for A Secret Affair and humble get together with Anne Curtis-Smith (sorry I really do feel bare when I just say Anne Curtis its like there is a missing itlog in tapsilog), her glam team Robbie Pinera and Raymond Santiago (whom F2s have been crushin on) and her Angels Ms. Therese, Ate Maryann and Kuya Monch.

Let’s get on with the other ingredients that could make something live to infinity and beyond (8 years and counting so to speak).

 8th Anniversary of Anne Curtis-Smith's F2s

Ingredient 1: 1 Whole Family

I have been part of the F2s family for a quarter of its existence (2 years just wanted to make my sentence flowery haha) and though it is short compared to others, the experience is for forever. If you have noticed, I do not call F2s a fanclub because I do not see it as one; I see it as a unit – as a family because that is what you would feel. Our ages, work, schools, or affiliations may vary but Anne Curtis-Smith has been the centripetal force that has linked us all together as one.

Ingredient 2: A cup of Craziness

Make that a drum full of craziness. Who you hang out with defines a chunk of who you are as a person at least that is how I see it. Anne, bless her beauty and talent is one crazy person (as she admits, I mean this in a good way don’t go hating). She is always game for anything fun, and her spontaneity is contagious. The F2s are crazy, if you follow some of our twitter accounts, I highly doubt you would take any of us seriously (except my tweet rants, don’t mind them). That makes this click.

Ingredient 3: A handful of good hearts

Like my previous entries, I have idolized Anne from the sidelines before that faithful day on January 28, 2010. Her efforts during the Typhoon Ondoy made me think differently of who she really was. The f2s, despite our individual and collective craziness, would always be ready and there to lend support and extend help.

And last but not the least.

Ingredient 4: A splash of unconditional love

A unit would always have “love” as the top reason why support is given without question. But unconditional love is the mother load of all loves out there. That is what I see in this little unit we call f2s. No matter what happens, I know F2sunconditional love and support for Anne will hold its forth for forever.

Happy 8th anniversary Anne Curtis-Smith and Fannetastic Fanneatics, to infinity and beyond.

Follow f2s on twitter and be part of the family:

Short Take on Fifty Shades

(not my Fifty Shades of Grey artwork)

Fifty Shades (of Grey, Darker, Freed) I think actually made it harder for men to please us women. The way I see it, they have to live up to the expectations we women have now after that very faithful day of opening the very first page, reading the first words and finishing the trilogy in perhaps the speed of light.
(I did in about 5 days I think)
Nonetheless, this made men up their game to keep their women, probably a win-win situation some people may think. I would sit in the corner, have a cup of tea (not Twinings English Breakfast Tea, I am sorry) and just silently agree on this.

In another point of view, this made single women increase their standards (fuck, yes OURs - I am one of you) to the point that we forget the average Joe’s who are silently willing to catch us when we fall, wake up with us every morning, and get us a run-down beatle for a ride.
Forgive me I have been online the entire day, it is in the wee hours of the morning from where I am and I stumbled upon tumblr posts about Fifty Shades.

When You Come Down - Tristan Prettyman (Lyrics)

(soundcloud link)

If you’re scared, let it go
And if you ever have a doubt
Now you know
That your heart, it won’t break
And it was never good
At making mistakes
So it’s no wonder my love
Goes on and on

You were always easy for me
I just no wonder, I knew, all along

Even when I know you feel like flying away
Believe me when I tell you that my love hasn’t changed
And the moment don’t forget
Tomorrow it will all turn around
I’ll be waiting when you come down
Waiting when you come down

Here we go, once again
Trying to break it when it won’t still bend
Got your head, in the clouds
And though you feel so far away from me now

But still my love, my love
Goes on and on

I’m trying to make it easy for you
But I don’t know if my love will ever be enough

Even when I know you feel like flying away
Believe me when I tell you that my love hasn’t changed
And the moment don’t forget
Tomorrow it will all turn around
I’ll be waiting when you come down
Waiting when you come down

How can I get you where you wanna go
When you don’t know where you wanna go
Push me away then you pull me close
And I hold on, and you let go

Even when I know you feel like flying away
Believe me when I tell you that my love hasn’t changed
And the moment don’t forget, don’t forget
I’ll be waiting when you come down

Even when I know you feel like flying away
Believe me when I tell you that my love hasn’t changed
And the moment don’t forget
Tomorrow it will all turn around
I’ll be waiting when you come down
Waiting when you come down
Tomorrow it will all turn around

Most Common Birthdays

Last night I could not get my brain turned off (like the usual) resulting to me sleeping at 5 in the morning. Ah the joys of having a long weekend with nothing planned. I could catch up on some stuff online, get new tunes and basically catch up on some of the artists I dearly adore. I stumbled upon Dianna Agron's tweet linking her tumblr (I know it exists for a long time but I just happen to not visit most of the time due to whatever useless reason there is). Browsed it through and found this - among other things.

Most Common Birth Dates

I guess I am less common, way to go Mom and Dad!

Anne Curtis for Bench Celebrity Scents

Anne Curtis for Bench Celebrity Scents

Anne Curtis is one of the bankable endorsers right now in the Philippines. People from all walks of life trust her name alone, looking at it from a different perspective, it is strengthening its course as a brand name itself. But she will get to that I am sure, soon.

EDT: Sweetheart, Fierce and Glamorous for Php 368

Last October 27, 2012 at the SM Mall of Asia as one of the events lined up for Philippine Fashion Week, Bench has formally launched Anne Curtis as part of their family for the Bench Celebrity Scents. She has 6 fragrances in total: Eau de Toillette (EDT): Glamorous, Fierce, and Sweetheart for Php 368 a bottle and Body Spray Amour: Cuppycake, Baby Kisses, and Carnival Cocktail for Php 128 a bottle.

Amour Body Spray for Php 128

The show started with an a Capella group to the tune of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream" getting the jam packed SM Mall of Asia's atrium/activity center ready for Anne Curtis. She launched her fragrances with Bench Celebrity Scents Collection on the runway singing to Diana Ross' "I'm Coming Out" doning a beautiful pink laced gown looking like a living barbie doll. Walked on the runway in a beautiful gold dress and ended the Bench Concerto in J.Lo's "Dance Again". Both songs were sang LIVE by Anne Curtis. Playful on the runway, the crowd cheered her on and enjoyed every minute of her little Concerto. You can just hear the screams and cheers on the video.

I apologize to those who are looking for pictures during the launch, I did not take one to be honest but hold on I have something better. I have recorded Anne Curtis' Bench Concerto (90% of it) for your viewing pleasures.

We all know that once Anne Curtis sets out in public for a brand, it means that it is something worth it (and I am not borrowing a line from her shampoo/conditioner endorsement by the way). Go grab your own bottle at any Bench store near you.
